Together Dementia Support now has two mini buses that enable us to take our members out on day trips. We have visited Blackpool; Dunham Massey, Heaton Park or simply a local garden centre.
Our trips out reduce isolation, get our members out into some green spaces, give them the opportunity for some gentle exercise and enable them to engage with the local area.
Our trained staff carry out a risk assessment for all venues and check to see that there are suitable facilities available such as toilets, benches and preferably a café, as eating out is one of the enjoyable features of these trips.
As a volunteer, I remember going for a stroll along the prom at Blackpool followed by a delicious fish and chip supper while chatting with some of our members. It was a memorable day for all of us and one that I look forward to repeating!
