Bowdon RUFC Ladies Lunch Raises Over £11,000 for Together Dementia Support

A huge thank you to everyone at Bowdon Rugby Union Football Club who helped make the Ladies Lunch such a success. The event raised an incredible £11,051 for Together Dementia Support.

A remarkable amount was raised, making a real difference locally. It costs around £10,000 a week to run Together Dementia Support services across Manchester, so the money raised at Bowdon has funded more than a full week of support for people living with dementia and the people who care for them.

That support includes our Friendship & Activity Groups, where people can spend time together, try new activities and build friendships. It helps fund walks, outings, and community sessions that keep people connected, and it enables carers to access support and understanding from others who know what they’re going through.

Alison Fleming, one of the organisers, said the generosity of those who attended made the day what it was:

“The Bowdon RUFC Ladies Lunch ladies were truly the reason we raised such a fantastic amount. The event simply wouldn’t have been what it was without them. They are an incredible group of women.”

Choosing a dementia charity was also a very personal decision for the organisers.

“When choosing a charity, we always aim to support one that is local to the community we live in. Sadly, Donna, one of the organisers, lost her mother-in-law to dementia earlier this year. Because of this, we felt strongly about focusing on a charity that supports people living with this condition.”

After speaking with our team and hearing more about the work we do, the group felt confident they had found the right cause.

“After learning about all the incredible work your charity does within the community, we knew it was the right cause and one we truly wanted to support.”

We’re so grateful to the organisers, everyone who attended the lunch, and the businesses who donated auction prizes. Events like this take a lot of effort behind the scenes, and the impact reaches far beyond the room on the day.

If you’re part of a sports club, social club or community group and are thinking about supporting a local charity, we’d love to hear from you. Fundraising events like this help make sure people living with dementia and their carers can continue to find friendship, support and understanding in their community.
